No-Fault Divorce Solicitors
In April 2021, no-fault divorce was introduced under the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020. This act removes the necessity to place blame when going through a divorce. Previously, the outdated laws surrounding divorce meant that one of the partners had to accept blame for the relationship’s breakdown under one of the following criteria:
- Unreasonable behaviour.
- Separation for at least two years with consent from both parties.
- Adultery
- Separation for at least five years without consent from both parties.
- Desertion by one party.
However, no-fault divorce allows couples to enter divorce proceedings jointly and without reason if necessary.
Our lawyers have welcomed the update to legislation surrounding divorce as it ensures amicable proceedings in more cases since the need to place blame has been removed.
Find out more about this on our Divorce page.
